Foulds brings hockey rink resolution

City Councillor Andrew Foulds is introducing a resolution tonight that will look at increasing supervision at local hockey rinks.  Foulds says it's the first step towards getting kids more physically active in the winter.  Foulds says if the resolution passes tonight, staff will come back with a list of options for council on how they can make the rinks more accessible.

City Solicitor prepares report on lawsuit

The City Solicitor is preparing a report for City Council about a defamation suit against Mayor Hobbs. Rosalie Evans says the city does have policies in place that covers employees who are accused during their time on the job. Evans report will be presented at the July 18th council meeting. Meanwhile, The City isn't releasing a formal statement about the allegations. Police Chief Bob Herman is seeking 700 thousand dollars in damages centered around comments made by Hobbs during a press conference earlier this spring.

Input sought on housing strategy

A second round of public input sessions on a proposed housing strategy start today. Iain Angus is the Chair of the Social Services Board and says they want to make sure they meet the public's needs. To comment on the draft plan log onto the Social Services Board website.

Virtual Tour of Waterfront

The City of Thunder Bay is providing a look into the future of the finished Prince Arthur landing.  A virtual tour is available on the city's website .  Waterfront Development Manager Katherine Dugmore says they're also showcasing the video at an open house this afternoon at Pier 3.  Another video is expected to be released at Christmas and looks at the finished public buildings.

RV Parking examined by Council

Councillor Ian Angus wants the city to consider a by-law banning overnight RV parking at large retail stores.  Angus says he's not targetting Walmart or any one particular store.  Administration is going to be asked to look at what power the city has over parking on private property.  Angus feels its hurting business for local RV campgrounds and municipally owned camp sites.

Thunder Bay firefighter remarks irksome

A Thunder Bay City Councillor is standing up for the municipality's fire fighters and scolding his fellow councillor.
Councillor Robert Tuchenhagen made public comments about the City's fire fighters saying they were spoiled. Aldo Ruberto says he doesn't agree with Tuchenhagen's comments. An arbitrator is going to make a decision on the fire fighters contract with the municipality in the near future.
