Local Man Joins Greens

A Thunder Bay man is the new provincial Green party candidate in the riding of Timiskaming-Cochrane. 21-year-old Cody Fraser has jumped into the election race, and says he wants to spread Green views. Fraser says many of the issues in Timiskaming-Cochrane, including mining and road maintenance, are similar to the issues in Thunder Bay. This is Fraser's first political endeavour, but he says that Thunder Bay Green candidates John Northey and Joseph Leblanc are showing him the ropes.

Campbell calls for Matthews visit

Residents in Rainy River are being urged to keep up the pressure on Ontario's Health Minister to help resolve their doctor shortage.  Their MPP Sarah Campbell says assurances from Deb Matthews that the community's emergency room won't close when the lone doctor leaves is not a complete fix.  Campbell says a letter writing campaign started by residents in Rainy River needs to continue to bring more long-term solutions.

Memorial to be held for former Mayor Dusty Miller

Its a chance for residents and politicians alike to pay tribute to former Mayor Dusty Miller.  A memorial will be held Friday afternoon at the Community Auditorium and Councillor Ken Boshcoff says when he was a rookie on council he was really impressed by Millers leadership.  Councillor Iain Angus says Miller is the reason why he got involved in politics and Mayor Keith Hobbs says she was a tough leader who fought hard for what she believed in.  The service will start at 2 o'clock.
